Poster Details:

John Lennon purchased the 19th-century circus poster for Pablo Fanque’s Circus Royal in an antique store in 1967, while the Beatles were filming Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane. Everything in the Beatles song was adapted from the poster, except the name of the horse was not Henry, but Zanthus.

. What is the “hogshead of real fire”? A colloquial term for a barrel set alight. One of the most musically complex songs from Sgt. Pepper, the Abbey Road production team used a harmonium of wobbly tapes of vintage Victorian calliopes and the Hammond organ to create the song’s famous kaleidoscopic wash of sound.

Steeped in history, Lennon was probably unaware the poster bill promoted the biggest stars in the Victorian Age. Pablo Fanque, born William Darby, was a master horseman and the first black circus owner. The circus played to capacity crowds for the better part of 30 years. Mr. Kite was William Kite, who worked for Pablo Fanque from 1843-1845, visible on the poster playing the bugle while balancing on his head a top a pole. J. Henderson was John Henderson, a famous wire-walker, equestrian, trampoline artist, and clown. He performed acts with his wife Agnes.

Three Paper Quality Options Available:

We use high quality 100% premium paper with a lifespan of 25-400yrs, dependent on the display condition. The finish is dependent on the contrast range of the print and how it is affected by the light striking it. This vintage poster has been professionally retouched and yet retains its antique look, original patina, and color. The design was created to keep the posters appearance as close as possible to the original.

Economical Print: Premium Poster Paper. The unique quality is suitable for framing. Ideal for theater type posters. A higher gloss print, the white on this paper is a little warmer and darker than the C-Prints.

C-Print Matte: Has a larger color gamut and is printed on 10-color solvent inkjet. The surface is more satin then high gloss. Excellent for photos and artwork.

Enhanced Matte Paper is recommended to be displayed behind glass or laminating for maximum life. Highest quality wood fiber matte paper. Exceptional color gaunt and long life. Best for framed artwork or reproductions. Very professional looking print at a modest price.
